Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, an upscale restaurant outside Walden Galleria, closed its doors without warning Tuesday.
Employees were told Texas de Brazil, a Brazilian steakhouse, has bought Hyde Park out of its lease with the mall.
Texas de Brazil is a privately owned chain founded in Texas in 1998. It is known for its wide varieties of slow-roasted meats that are presented from patron to patron and carved tableside. It has 36 locations in 15 states as well as Aruba, and Trinidad and Tobago.
When asked if Hyde Park’s other locations would accept gift cards purchased for use at the Buffalo location, director of operations Kelly Fenske declined to comment. The restaurant had gift cards for sale as recently as Sunday night.
The Cleveland-based chain has eight locations in Ohio, two in Florida and one each in Michigan and Pittsburgh.
The Buffalo location opened in 2007 along with five other restaurants as part of a $60 million expansion at the mall. As part of a strategy that continues today, the mall recruited several restaurants, including the Cheesecake Factory and the Melting Pot, along with a 16-screen cinema and several high-end stores such as Sephora and Bebe, in an attempt to make the mall a prime shopping and entertainment destination.
