A 23-year-old man has been charged with a series of daytime burglaries in Cheektowaga that began last week, town police announced Tuesday.

Michael Rojas, 23, of Toelsin Road, was stopped by Officers Greg Maniccia and Michael Striejewske early Monday morning as he was walked along George Urban Boulevard. Rojas matched an image captured on a home surveillance system in the area where the burglaries were occurring, according to Capt. James Speyer, a police department spokesman.

At the time he was stopped by police, Rojas had property taken from a home that was burglarized that morning, the captain said.

The series of daytime burglaries in the George Urban/Beverly Hills Park area began Sept. 4, with break-ins reported by residents of McNaughton Avenue, Westland Parkway, Rosewood Terrace and Crescent Court.

Electronics, jewelry and cash were reported stolen from homes. In most cases, the homes were entered after window screens were cut, Speyer said.

Rojas has been charged with three counts each of burglary, criminal mischief, petit larceny and grand larceny, with further charges pending. Following arraignment before Town Justice Dennis Delano, he was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
