Two people, including a man secured in a wheelchair, were injured Friday afternoon in a collision that was caused by one driver’s failure to stop at a stop sign, East Aurora Police reported.

The driver of a full-sized van had to be transported to Erie County Medical Center by Mercy Flight helicopter after the 12:45 p.m. accident at the intersection of Davis Road and Jewett-Holmwood Road in Aurora, police said.

“At this point, it looks like she will be kept overnight, but the injuries do not appear serious,” Police Lt. Shane Krieger said of the minivan driver. He said that driver’s passenger – a man in a wheelchair – was taken by ambulance to the ECMC for treatment of injuries that also were not believed to be serious.

Police did not release names of the drivers or passengers, but said they would be made available later.

According to Krieger, the full-sized van was headed east on Jewett-Holmwood. That vehicle was struck by a minivan that was headed south on Davis, with a driver and two passengers.

The driver of the minivan failed to stop at a stop sign and hit the full-sized van, causing heavy damage to both vehicles, Krieger said. He said the minivan’s driver will be issued a citation for failing to obey the stop sign.
