SHERIDAN – A blaze that broke out about 9:30 a.m. Saturday chased three members of a Sherdian family from their fire-ravaged home on Center Road near Route 39, fire official said.
First Battalion Coordinator Tony Faso said the wood house was declared a total loss and the cause has yet to be determined. The battle was hampered by strong winds and tanker trucks had to bring water to the scene. Firefighters, who were on the scene for several hours, had to return to the site about 6:30 p.m. Saturday when flames rekindled, authorities said.
The occupants, Ed and Victoria Schafer and their daughter, are currently staying with relatives, officials said.
Sheridan firefightrers were assisted by companies from Silver Creek, Sunset Bay, Forestville, Dunkirk and Cassadaga.
