FORESTVILLE – Forestville school officials will talk with their counterparts in the Silver Creek Central Schools about sharing the spring baseball and track programs, school officials said Thursday.
A survey of athletes who want to participate in the two sports also will be conducted before a shared program is approved, Board of Education members said at their meeting in the Forestville School Library.
The two schools would consider sharing junior varsity and varsity baseball, and board members agreed that a modified baseball program should also be considered for the two schools. Students from both districts participate in a summer league through the Hanover Little League program.
In other matters:
• School Board President Sylvester Cleary said he attended the Common Core standards forum with State Education Commission John King held Wednesday in Jamestown. He said he believes the Forestville district is doing well with the Common Core curriculum.
• Officials said installation of new security measures will take place in January. There will be “card swipe” systems at both schools’ main entrances and other security devices installed on the campus.
• Steve Sandberg of Sandberg Kessler Architecture and Engineering of Jamestown described the services his firm would provide in defining long-range capital improvement projects for the district. He said the planning and preliminary design services would include meetings with the administration, building and grounds staff and technology team members to prioritize the items that require upgrades in the next few years. Board members tabled the resolution to pay for the work at a cost of $43,200, wanting more time to review the matter. The preliminary report would provide information on needed improvements that would have to be considered by voters in a future referendum.
• Board members approved the tax collectors’ report with a total of $247,565 to be referred to officials in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties who will attempt to collect unpaid tax bills from the property owners.
• Officials said elementary students raised $6,000 by shaving their heads or cutting their hair in the recent “Bald for Bucks” campaign to benefit Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
• Heidi SanGeorge and Kristin Britz were named as co-directors for the school play with a stipend of $366 each; and
• Registered nurse Stacie Bauer was hired.
