The Buffalo man who was hit by a car that also killed a woman on Kenmore Avenue Thursday was listed in stable condition Friday in Erie County Medical Center.
Kevin Nowak, 55, and Sandra Garner, 52, also of Buffalo, were crossing the street when they were struck by a 2013 Toyota Corolla turning left from the section of the Budwey’s supermarket parking lot controlled by a traffic light. The driver was identified as Edward Spencer, 82, Town of Tonawanda police said. Garner died later in ECMC.
Frank Budwey, owner of the supermarket, said the intersection is not dangerous and this was the most serious incident at the signal that he is aware of.
From 2009 to 2012, there were 2,223 motor vehicle collisions with pedestrians, resulting in 38 fatalities in Erie County – 86 of these incidents occurring in the Town of Tonawanda, according to a report by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign, which released the data in October using the state Department of Transportation’s accident data files.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
