OLEAN – In the final Common Council meeting under the administration of Mayor Linda Witte, the Council Tuesday night approved legislation targeting owners of dogs running free.
Under the law, dog owners would pay more for violating the law as proposed by Ward 2 Alderman Ann McLaughlin, in which violators will see fines of $25 for the first offense, $100 for the second and $250 for subsequent offenses. The law becomes effective Jan. 1.
The Council will hold a reorganization meeting at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 2 in the Municipal Building, 101 E. State St.
