Erie County sheriff’s deputies on Thursday investigated a threat of harm allegedly made at Kaegabein Elementary School on Grand Island, officials reported.

School officials notified the Sheriff’s Office at 9:50 a.m. that they had been contacted by the parent of a student in the school, who said her child had overheard talk among other students of a threat to the safety of the students and the school, according to a release issued by the Sheriff’s department. School officials immediately contacted the Sheriff’s Office, and then initiated their “Shelter in Place” protocol, which allows no one in or out of the building.

“An investigation was started, to determine the credibility and the source of the threat,” according to the release. “Although the investigation is continuing, all indications are that the threat was actually talk among the students that may have grown as it was spread. Nothing has been found to suggest that any of the students, teachers or staff were at any time in danger.”

Kaegabein Elementary on Love Road serves 400 students in grades two through five.
