GObike Buffalo and Grow 716 are launching a texting campaign for people who want to get around safely on foot in the messy weather season. Participants are asked to report via text message when a business has not complied with city regulations that require them to keep sidewalks that are along the street clear of snow and ice.
“Clear sidewalks are essential for promoting alternative transportation options and allowing folks who choose to walk and bike to do so safely!,” according to the GObike website.
They ask that people text “GObike” to 877-877. The information will become part of a database and map to alert pedestrians where sidewalks are not clear in the city. Organizers note that they want to focus on businesses, not homeowners. Results will be posted on the Grow 716 website, www.grow716.org.
