Evans Bancorp has expanded its ATM network around the state, and, separately, finished relocating employees after consolidating some of its locations.
Hamburg-based Evans, the parent company of Evans Bank, said its customers now have “no-fee” access to 531 ATMs in Rite Aid locations around the state.
The Evans-branded machines – which are not owned by the bank – are aimed at helping the bank increase its visibility in Lockport, Grand Island, Cheektowaga, Eden, Silver Creek and Gowanda, said Kevin Brady, vice president of marketing and public relations.
“A lot of our marketing expenses are specifically for the purpose of brand awareness, as opposed to selling a specific product,” Brady said. Evans ranked sixth in deposit market share in the Buffalo Niagara region, with 2 percent, according to Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. data as of June 30.
Apart from the ATMs in the Rite Aid stores, Evans also has 42 bank-owned ATMs in its branches at merchant locations around the region. And its customers also do not have to pay access fees at more than 23,000 MoneyPass ATM locations around the country.
Separately, Evans has completed a series of moves designed to make its operations run more efficiently. The bank moved out of two buildings in Angola – it had leased one and owned the other – and sold a property on Grand Island.
Evans sold a property in Angola at public auction for $75,000, to attorney Thomas Burton. The lease expired on Evans’ other Angola building. On Grand Island, Evans sold a Baseline Road property for $275,000.
A number of employees were moved to different locations. For instance, 25 operations and information technology employees moved into a property on Sunset Drive in Hamburg, near Evans’ headquarters. Evans bought that property, which also has land for future expansion, for $535,000 in early 2013.
All told, about 100 of Evans 250 employees moved somewhere, either within the same building, just down the street or from a building that was vacated by Evans.
