Volunteers are sought for a “Day of Caring” Saturday in West Seneca to help homeowners affected by the Jan. 11 flooding.
The effort is being coordinated at Winchester Community Church, 909 Harlem Road, where volunteers are asked to report by 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Teams will be assembled and assigned to specific tasks in the Lexington Green neighborhood between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There were 70 homes damaged, to varying degrees, when an ice jam on Buffalo Creek, near the Harlem Road bridge, caused the creek to overflow its banks during a warmup Jan. 11.
Lunch and beverages will be provided at the worksites. Volunteers who have the time are encouraged to stay until 4 p.m., to complete as much work as possible.
Meanwhile, the West Seneca School District, through its teachers association, has established a neighborhood relief fund. Checks, made payable to WSTA Neighborhood Relief Fund, may be sent to the association’s office, 196 Orchard Park Road, or to M&T Bank at Southgate Plaza, 1024 Union Road; the ZIP code is 14224 for both.
