You know it’s cold when …

When 24 degrees is considered a break in the weather.

It’s hard to imagine, but that projected high temperature is a welcome change from the single digits that have been the norm of late.

But don’t put away the hat and gloves just yet.

“It’s just a respite, if you can call it that," said Tom Paone, meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

The single-digit cold is expected to return by Tuesday with temperatures in the meantime hovering in the high teens.

Of course, with the warmer temperatures have come high winds and some new snow.

Paone said the weather service received reports of 40- to 45-mph gusts overnight.

A number of accidents also have been reported, including one involving a tractor trailer that closed part of Route 219 north near Milestrip Road and another involving a truck on Millersport Highway near Interstate 990.

Despite the warmup, and proof that it’s still freezing cold outside, a wind chill advisory will remain in effect until at least noon Sunday.

The Weather Service also issued a winter storm warning but earlier today downgraded it to a winter weather advisory.

The blowing snow is expected to continue this afternoon, with 1 to 3 inches possible.

The snow will continue tonight and tomorrow with snow accumulation of less than an inch overnight.

The temperature will fall to around -1 degrees, with wind chill values as low as -20 tonight.
