The Erie County Department of Social Services is continuing to accept applications for Home Energy Assistance Program benefits after the state Office of Temporary Disability Assistance authorized and extension of the regular program.
The regular benefit component of the program had been scheduled to close today, said County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz.
“This extension is great news to the many families and individuals who are struggling with heating costs during what has been an unusually cold winter. I encourage all residents who need the assistance to register as soon as possible,” Poloncarz said Friday.
There is no new date for the end of the program.
Last winter, more than 95,000 households in Erie County received HEAP benefits. To apply for HEAP, call 858-7644, or apply online at www.mybenefits.ny.gov.
