The treasurer for the West Seneca School District was sent into retirement with plenty of warm wishes Wednesday night, but there was no need to actually say goodbye.
Brian L. Schulz, who has worked for the district almost 25 years, is retiring in February. He will remain involved in the district’s financial affairs, on a part-time basis, for the foreseeable future – particularly during the development of the 2014-15 budget.
“He’s been a master of finances,” School Superintendent Mark J. Crawford said.
The superintendent cited the financial challenges Schulz tackled in recent years.
“We landed on our feet; we’re on an upward climb again,” Crawford said.
School Board member Janice E. Dalbo has been on the board since before Schulz was hired.
“Not one time was his character ever questioned – or his integrity,” Dalbo said.
Also present Wednesday night were officers from the West Seneca Chamber of Commerce, which will honor Schulz next month as the organization’s “Educator of the Year.”
When it was his turn to speak, Schulz recalled someone once saying: “We have no greater duty in life than to serve the people we are around.”
Schulz offered his thanks for the opportunity to serve the community.
“That’s been the best part of all of this,” he said.
Meanwhile, Janice Lewandowski, assistant manager of financial and computer services, will take over Schulz’s day-to-day duties. The two have worked together for more than 20 years.
And taking over some of Lewandowski’s duties, including grant management, will be Stacey Farolino-Norton.
A business office employee since 1999, Farolino-Norton was appointed Wednesday to the recently created job of business affairs specialist.
