A search for robbery suspects on the University at Buffalo’s North Campus caused police to issue a shelter-in-place warning for nearly two hours late Tuesday into early this morning.

The lockdown was lifted at 1:33 a.m. on the Amherst campus.

According to police, suspects from an off-campus robbery at apartments off Sweet Home Road fled in a vehicle. The suspects, police say, abandoned the vehicle in a parking lot at the nearby on-campus Hadley Village apartments.

An air pistol, believed to be connected to the suspects, was discovered in bushes during a search of the Hadley Village area before police lifted the shelter-in-place warning. The air pistol was located by an Amherst Police K-9 dog, according to an alert posted by UB officials.

The first alert, sent at 11:36 p.m. Tuesday, indicated a robbery victim followed suspects -- described as three college-age males in dark clothing -- onto UB’s North Campus. The alert said the suspects abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot toward Audubon Parkway.

At that point, the shelter-in-place request was issued.

UB officials have asked anyone observing suspicious activity to contact university police at 645-2222.
