Hamburg School Board members have selected the current interim superintendent, Richard Jetter, to be the district’s next superintendent, a source in the district told The Buffalo News on Thursday.
Jetter, who was believed to be the leading candidate for the job, was the district’s assistant superintendent for human resources and technology before being named the interim superintendent last July after Steven Achramovitch announced his retirement.
The School Board apparently chose the new superintendent Feb. 11, after interviewing the third finalist for the job at the end of its regular meeting that night.
School Board President David Yoviene declined to speak with The Buffalo News about the selection and referred all questions to the board’s search consultant, Vincent Coppola.
The identity of the new superintendent has not been formally announced yet because the board and the candidate are beginning to negotiate a contract.
“Sometimes negotiations fall through,” Coppola said.
There were 19 applications from people interested in heading the district troubled by controversy in recent years.
The two other finalists interviewed by the board and a focus group of school and community members were Jeffrey R. Rabey, superintendent of the Depew School District, and Dawn F. Mirand, superintendent of Mount Morris Central School District. Rabey withdrew and said Thursday he plans to stay at Depew.
After looking at the 19 applications, the board decided to interview seven candidates. One candidate dropped out, and six semifinalists were interviewed by the board, which then selected the three finalists.
