Winter Lingers
For months we’ve paid our winter dues,
Wind chill factors ’n snow shovel blues,
Sans boots and gloves can’t travel far,
Snow brush, scrape, warm up the car.
Bundle up in bulky clothes,
Howling wind, the Skyway’s closed.
Haven’t seen the sun in days,
Dreary, weary winter ways.
Sky of gray above trees so bare,
Piled snow seems everywhere.
Mother Nature and her winter grinches
Upon us bestowed one hundred inches.
Wintry gloom, your cold and white stuff,
Just go away, we’ve had enough.
Seems we’ll never, ever see a brighter day,
But spring is coming – so they say!

SHROVE TUESDAY TASTES – Calvary Episcopal Church, 20 Milton St. at South Cayuga Road, Williamsville, is hosting its Seventh Annual Jambalaya Supper in the church’s Hughson Hall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Dinners are $7 adults, $3 children 12 and younger, and $25 per family (immediate family only). They include homemade jambalaya, with or without shrimp, corn muffin, salad, beverage and pecan pie. Macaroni and cheese is available for youngsters or those who aren’t fans of Cajun cuisine.
To add to the Mardi Gras spirit, the church is hosting a New Orleans-style jazz concert, “Rockin’ With the Saints,” in the sanctuary with the Barry Boyd Group from the Colored Musicians Club.
