A North Buffalo man who robbed an Amherst bank of nearly $4,000 after threatening to blow it up if the teller didn’t give him the money was sentenced Monday to two to four years in prison.

Erie County Judge Michael F. Pietruszka imposed the prison term on Todd Evchich, 43, of Colvin Avenue.

Evchich pleaded guilty last month to third-degree robbery. He admitted telling the employee at the M&T Bank branch at 1205 Niagara Falls Blvd. on Oct. 10 that he would detonate C-4 plastic explosives if he wasn’t given the money.

He fled with the cash but was quickly caught by police nearby.

Evchich, a second-felony offender, faced a maximum prison sentence of 3½ to seven years.
