Daniel R. Reynolds – aka hip-hop beatboxer “Scantron” – is running for a seat on the Buffalo School Board.

Reynolds, 29, is a performer as well as a Chinese language interpreter for the International Institute of Buffalo. He holds a master’s degree in education from the University at Buffalo and served for two months in 2012 as an English-as-a-second-language teacher at International School 45, a Buffalo elementary school.

He was born in Buffalo, grew up in Pembroke, attended UB and spent two years in Taiwan before returning to Buffalo in August 2010. According to his resume, he speaks Mandarin Chinese and is an intermediate Japanese speaker. He also speaks basic, conversational Korean and Arabic.

Reynolds is the 12th announced candidate to run for one of three at-large School Board seats in the May 6 election. He summarized his top platform priority as creating a school culture “representing our city and allowing achievement of our highest potential.”

He said he decided to run for the board because he wasn’t confident his platform issues would be otherwise addressed. He put together a Facebook page, including a brief video rap, regarding his qualifications and agenda for the board.
