Two Buffalo schools administrators recently placed on leave will not receive pay during their time off the job, according to a press statement the school district released today.
School Superintendent Pamela C. Brown announced the leave late Thursday night, within 24 hours of when board members discussed the appointments during an hour-long executive session.
“It has come to our attention that there are two individuals whose certifications are in question. Until those questions are resolved, I, as the Superintendent, have determined that it is in the best interest of the District to place them in a leave status,” Brown wrote in a statement.
The two have been identified as Yamilette Williams, chief of curriculum, assessment and instruction; and Faith Morrison Alexander, chief of school leadership.
Williams has only a conditional certificate to serve as a school principal in New York State, not as a district-wide administrator, according to the state Education Department.
Morrison Alexander has the same conditional certificate.
The district stated that the school board still needs to consider the matter. It also stated that the salary range for these positions is between $130,000 and $135,000 annually. Williams’ contract states that she makes $130,000. The district refused to provide specific salary figures for either administrator.
“Each of these candidates emerged as being best qualified for the positions they were hired to fulfill,” the statement said. “Each holds a doctorate degree in education and has extensive field experience."
“They were hired on the basis of their merits and regardless of any other affiliations.”
