The search for a new superintendent for the Frontier Central School District is down to two finalists.
School Board President Janet MacGregor Plarr declined to identify the finalists, who were chosen from among 24 applicants.
The board interviewed one of the candidates Monday evening, and plans to interview the second one at 6 p.m. next Thursday at the office of the district’s legal counsel, Harris Beach at Larkin at Exchange building, 725 Exchange St.
“We hope to be done with the process by mid-April,” Plarr said.
Search consultant Howard Smith, of School Leadership, collected input through 11 meetings and an on-line survey about what community members would like to see in a superintendent, and those specifications helped narrow the field of applicants, he said. The board is looking for an energetic leader who has experience as a teacher, building administrator and preferably in the central office, and who will make a long-term commitment to the district.
Having stability in the superintendent’s office is important to many in the district, which has seen eight superintendents or interim superintendents, over the last 10 years.
Board members are considering the input of members of the community gathered before the candidates submitted applications, but only the board is interviewing the candidates.
Plarr said she hopes the board can make a selection before the week of spring break, which is April 14, and make the formal appointment April 22 or May 6. The board has canceled its April 8 regular meeting and rescheduled it to April 10.
