NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A suicidal woman was persuaded by a member of the Niagara Parks Police to return to the shore of the Niagara River after she had climbed over a wall and hung precariously about 15 feet above the fast flowing water Tuesday evening near the brink of the Horseshoe Falls.
She was assisted away from the wall and taken into custody under the authority of Ontario’s Provincial Mental Health Act and taken to Niagara Health Systems’ St. Catherine’s Hospital for evaluation.
Members of the Niagara Parks Police, the Niagara Regional Police and the Niagara Falls Fire Department were called to the scene near Table Rock House just after 8 p.m. It took about 20 minutes of talks to persuade her to seek help.
Peel Regional Police and the Hamilton Police assisted with pertinent information about the woman, but her name is not being made public.
