It doesn’t matter that Russian President Vladimir Putin probably hasn’t even heard of Mighty Taco, a Buffalo-based fast food chain, he’s banned from setting foot on the premises of any of their locations.
So says a news release that was issued by the company. The reason is, of course, Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
“You may be ordering around the Crimea, but you won’t be ordering a Super Mighty Taco around here anytime soon,” says the release, credited to an unnamed Mighty Taco spokesperson.
“No one likes a bully, so stop picking on people and maybe you will be welcomed back to Mighty Taco,” it continues.
Though, clearly, tongue in cheek, James Gillan, president of Paragon Advertising. insisted today that news release was not intended as an April Fools Day joke. Gillan said Mighty Taco first made the announcement on Monday, March 31.
“Oh, yeah. That’s what we wanted to do, because we didn’t want people to think we weren’t serious,” Gillan said.
“We felt somebody had to do something. You know, nobody was doing anything, and this is actually more than our government has done,” said Gillan in a brief telephone interview Thursday.
