SALAMANCA – The annual Seneca Pow Wow will be held in Veterans Memorial Park for the next few years under an agreement between the Seneca Nation of Indians and the City of Salamanca.

The agreement signed by Seneca Nation President Barry E. Snyder Sr. and Salamanca Mayor Carmen A. Vecchiarella establishes rules and regulations governing the use of the park for the annual celebration. The Seneca Nation agrees to pay $8,500 per year for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 Pow Wows.

“This is an agreement that shows that the city and the (Seneca) Nation are willing to work together,” Vecchiarella said at a City Council meeting this week. “We are getting compensated well for the use of the facility, and the nation will reimburse the city for all charges, such as police overtime.”

Pow Wow Week for 2015 and 2016 will run from July 14 to 20 and July 12 to 18, respectively. This year’s Pow Wow is scheduled from July 18 to 20.

In other action, the Council:

• Appointed Ashley Chudy and Shari Carney as part-time library aides in the Salamanca Library, working 20 hours per week at $12.50 an hour.

• Appointed Susan Whitcomb part-time office clerk in the Department of the Clerk, working 20 hours a week at $12.50 an hour.

• Extended the no-parking area on the northwestern side of Myers Avenue for an additional 50 feet – as recommended by the Police Commission.

• Approved 3 percent raises, effective April 1, for employees of the Salamanca Housing Authority – with the exception of one janitorial post.
