The Erie County Department of Social Services has scheduled two community forums to raise local awareness about child abuse.
The free events are both set for noon to 1 p.m. and will be held in the Ring of Knowledge area on the main floor of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library’s Central Library downtown. They are aimed at providing information about the consequences of child abuse from both the local healthcare and child welfare communities’ perspectives.
The first forum, “The Healthcare Community Speaks About Child Abuse,” will be held on Wednesday and feature Dr. Paula Mazur, a pediatrician at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, and Dr. Jack Coyne of the Child Advocacy Center as speakers.
The second event, “The Child Welfare Community Speaks About Child Abuse,” is set for April 28, and will feature Erie County Family Court Judge Lisa Bloch Rodwin and Child & Family Services Chief Executive Officer Francisco Vasquez as speakers.
