A new report gives Western New York poor grades for air quality and places the blame squarely on the region’s coal-fired power plants.

The report from the American Lung Association gave Chautauqua County, the home of the coal-fired Dunkirk Station, a grade of F for air quality. Erie County, the home of the coal-fired Huntley Station in the Town of Tonawanda, got a D for its air quality, as did Niagara County.

The lung association said the report shows the importance of retiring the state’s coal-fired power plants.
