SANBORN – Horizon Village, a 50-bed intensive residential treatment facility, has been honored for excellence in addictions treatment innovation.

The honor came from the National Council for Behavioral Health earlier this month in a Washington ceremony.

On Friday, Horizon held the grand opening of Freedom Village, its new 25-bed veterans treatment facility.

The $3.3 million, inpatient treatment center helps male veterans facing post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental health issues that can lead to chemical dependency.

The award of excellence honors individuals and organizations that are changing the lives of children, adults and families living with mental illness and addiction disorders. Behavioral health organizations, such as Horizon Village, are recognized for excellence in delivering treatment and support.

“Horizon’s work is testament to the fact that people can and do recover from substance abuse. They have a comprehensive program that acknowledges that recovery requires a caring environment and continuous support,” said Linda Rosenberg, president and CEO of the National Council for Behavioral Health.

Horizon Health Services has 18 outpatient sites serving Erie, Niagara and Genesee counties. Horizon’s Primary Care and Wellness Center, also adjacent to Horizon Village, offers medical, psychiatric and recreational services to all campus residents.
