NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – The Niagara Parks Police High Angle River Team helped the Fire Department to rescue three lost hikers in the Whirlpool Gorge about 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Men from both agencies rappelled into the gorge just north of Thompson’s point. The hikers were located and escorted out on foot to the metal staircase at the Niagara Glen. There were no injuries.
Police urged hikers in the Niagara Gorge to stay on marked trails, wear suitable clothing and footwear, have a cell phone, carry water and energy bars, avoid hiking in the dark, never hike alone, and tell someone where they are going.
