Four households in an Amherst condominium received temporary housing Thursday from the Red Cross after a support beam rotted out in the building as a result of recent flooding, Red Cross and Amherst fire officials reported.
Efforts are under way to shore up the structure at Park Lane Court, between North Forest Road and the Youngmann Highway. No injuries were reported.
Officials were alerted to the problem early Thursday. The Red Cross remained on alert during the day in case an additional eight households required temporary housing assistance while repairs were made, said Red Cross spokesman Jay Bonafede.
