Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz today endorsed Buffalo Mayor Byron W. Brown as Brown seeks a third term.

Brown and Poloncarz, both Democrats but from different wings of the party, expressed mutual admiration for each other during a news conference in front of Kleinhans Music Hall. They said they chose the venue because it symbolizes the way their county and city governments work together. While the City of Buffalo owns Kleinhans, county government provides financial support to the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, which uses Kleinhans as its home base.

Brown and Poloncarz said they have collaborated or looked out for each other’s interests on a number of fronts, including in their roles on the Erie County Industrial Development Agency and on Buffalo’s state-appointed control board. The two also worked to create a nonprofit land bank that can assist in rescuing distressed properties in Buffalo and across the county.

Poloncarz, a Buffalo resident, said he will vote for Brown in September’s Democratic Primary, when the mayor runs against former FBI Special Agent in Charge Bernard Tolbert.
