DuPont has agreed to pay a $440,000 fine as part of a settlement over alleged violations of the Clean Air Act at its plant in the Town of Tonawanda.

The company also agreed to submit a new plan for testing methyl methacrylate emissions at the plant.

Methyl Methacrylate is a chemical compound commonly used in the manufacture of plastics and coatings.

The settlement ends civil litigation brought by the Department of Justice and Environmental Protection Agency after a 2006 inspection of the plant at Sheridan Drive and River Road. DuPont said it has reviewed its Clean Air Act requirements “to ensure that all areas of alleged noncompliance have been addressed.”
