NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. – A 76-year-old tourist from Quebec died after he, his wife and their grandson were hit Tuesday night on Niagara Parkway by a pickup truck whose driver was impaired, Niagara Regional Police reported.

The victims were crossing the parkway, south of Murray Street, when they were struck and knocked to the ground at about 10 p.m. by a southbound pickup truck driven by a Niagara Falls resident.

The 76-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His 75-year-old wife was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, while their 14-year-old grandson suffered serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

Police said the pickup driver, Edward Coop, 55, was arrested on multiple charges, including impaired operation causing death and two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm. Coop remains in custody, pending a bail hearing.
