Visibility in West Seneca down to zero

“It’s just blizzard-like conditions. The visibility is down to zero,” West Seneca Highway Superintendent Matthew English said. “There should be no unnecessary travel.”

West Seneca is caught in the middle of the lake-effect snow band, and can’t win as the snow keeps coming down.

“When it moved north, we’re catching the bottom of it,” English said. “When it moves south, we catch the top of it.”

But highway crews are staying on the roads, taking breaks and keeping hydrated, he said.

“It’s not the buildup of snow that’s the problem. They have to go slow and be very cautious because of the visibility,” English said.

West Seneca Supervisor Sheila Meegan said town crews are doing well, considering the elements.

“With these drifts, you plow a street, you come back, it’s all blown over again,” she said.

“For the most part, our police department is out there enforcing the travel ban. I haven’t received complaints of cars in the road,” the highway superintendent said.
