MYSTERIES REVEALED – Few scientists know more about our planetary neighbor, Mars, than Kevin Williams, an associate professor of earth sciences at SUNY Buffalo State and director of the college’s Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium.
He speaks on “Unraveling the Geologic History of Mars” at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the auditorium of the Gateway Executive Office, 3556 Lake Shore Road, Blasdell, in a program presented by the Hamburg Natural History Society, the folks who oversee the Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center.

NO HIBERNATING – There will be fun indoors and out from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at “Winter Wonderland in the Woods” at the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center in Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve, 93 Honorine Drive, off Como Park Boulevard, Cheektowaga.
Visitors can try snowshoes and cross-country skis for free in a demonstration area outdoors. There also will be snowshoe rentals for longer walks, a winter wildlife hike, snow painting, a snow maze and an ice fishing demonstration.
Indoors, there will be exhibits and information about bears. There also will be bear-related crafts and costumed winter creatures, live animals, a scavenger hunt, door prizes and a program on wildlife rehabilitation. Call 683-5959 or visit www.dec.ny.gov and search for “Reinstein Woods.”
