An additional $40 million was included in the new state budget to help local municipalities fill potholes and repair damaged by the tough winter, State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer, R-Clarence, announced this morning.

The $40 million is budgeted for “Extreme Winter Weather Assistance Capital,” Ranzenhofer said.

“While spring has finally arrived, the aftermath of a brutal winter still remains,” Ranzenhofer said in a prepared statement. “There are still a significant number of potholes and surface damage all over the roadways. At the same time, the harsh winter has depleted municipalities’ budgets to repair roads.

“These investments will benefit towns and villages throughout Erie County so that new infrastructure repair projects can be undertaken,” he said.
