DOG DAYS – Erie County Legislator John J. Mills is hosting the seventh annual Orchard Park Public Library Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the library, 4570 Buffalo St., Orchard Park.
In addition to $1 Sahlen’s hot dogs and $2 Italian sausage sandwiches, which come with a bottle of spring water, the roast will feature a performance by Doug the Bubbleman, who will entertain with bubble magic from 1 to 2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the library. PAST LIVES – The stories behind the sculptures, statues, fountains and monuments are told in “Artwork on the Forest Lawn Canvas,” one of the cemetery’s trolley tours this month. The tour, which takes two hours, will be held at 2 p.m. today and again on Aug. 28. Tickets are $15. Reservations are required and a few seats are left on today’s tour. On Sunday, all of the cemetery’s usual trolley and walking tours will take the day off, making way for the Historic Civil War Trolley Tour, which will run at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The two-hour tour visits the final resting places of numerous Civil War notables, including African-American and Confederate soldiers. Tickets are $25. Reservations are a must.

PRIMING THE PUMP – The Scajaquada Canoe Club puts many paddles in the water when it comes to special events. The club works with the Grant Amherst Business Association to clean up Scajaquada Creek twice a year. It joins with Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper in United Way Day of Caring projects.
It sponsors and crews the eight-man Voyager canoe, built by members of the Buffalo Maritime Center, to represent Buffalo in the 90-mile Adirondack Classic every September. And this summer the club revived the Lantern Paddle on Hoyt Lake in Delaware Park, re-creating an event first held in 1906.
To support its activities, the club is holding a fundraiser from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday in the Ukrainian-American Civic Center, 205 Military Road. The Ukrainian Kitchen will be open until 10 p.m. and there will be music from singer-songwriter Lance Drake plus Myron Deputat with the Buffalo Country Band. Donation is $10.
