A Long Island legislator has called a hearing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in Buffalo Common Council Chambers to talk about how to provide relief for financially distressed municipalities.

State Sen. Jack M. Martins, R-Mineola, in the wake of Detroit’s recent bankruptcy filing, wants to review state laws that affect hard-up communities and discuss the effectiveness of state-imposed fiscal control boards.

Joining Martins will be Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, Buffalo Comptroller Mark Schroeder; Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority executive director Ken Vetter; Lancaster Town Supervisor Dino Fudoli, Ridgeway Town Supervisor Brian Napoli and other officials.
