Mayor Byron W. Brown joined Buffalo Bills alumni Tuesday to celebrate the official opening of Pierce Field, a new synthetic turf athletic field in Mulroy Park at South Park Avenue and Tifft Street. Construction of the field was supported by a $200,000 grant to the Buffalo Legacy Project from the Bills through the NFL Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corp. as part of the National Football League Grassroots Program. The city allocated $400,000 for infrastructure.
The field is part of a $2.5 million project that will include bleachers, landscaping, parking and a concessions and storage building. Also supporting the project were the John R. Oishei Foundation, the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, the First Niagara Bank Foundation and businessman Aaron J. Pierce.
