TIME TO SHOP – Find the unusual gift at the Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday sponsored by the Senior Ministry at True Bethel Baptist Church, 907 E. Ferry St. Vendors will have hats, scarves, jewelry, cosmetics, handcrafts, prayer cards and baked goods.

Meanwhile, the Parkside Community Association will be holding its seventh annual Holiday Arts and Crafts Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway.

Featured will be items by 23 local artisans, including jewelry, pottery, candles, photography and lotions. Admission is $2, which includes a coupon good for $1 off any single item over $10. For info, call 838-1240.

A CHILD IS BORN – His collection of international Nativity sets has grown to 355 from 52 countries, and the Rev. Roy Herberger again is putting them on display for the Christmas season in the church where he is pastor, SS. Columba-Brigid, Hickory and Eagle streets, a block south of Clinton Street just east of downtown Buffalo.

Beginning this weekend, the display, which includes a special Children’s Section, will be on view from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Jan. 5. Groups are welcome during the week if they call Father Roy first at 852-2076.

HELPING HANDS – Canisius College students who have been part of the college’s service immersion program in Poland are holding a fundraiser to benefit the orphanage in Zmiaca, Poland, that they have been visiting for the past six years.

It takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Church of the Assumption, Linwood Avenue and North Street, and features a live band, food, a bake sale and raffles. Donation is $5. Proceeds will help support the orphanage’s adoption center.

SEASONAL SOUNDS – The Sanborn Fire Company Band will perform a traditional Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Sanborn Fire Hall, 5811 Buffalo St. (Route 429). Admission is free. Refreshments will be provided, and Santa will pay a visit. Nonperishable food items will be accepted on behalf of the Rotary Club.

TALENT HUNT – A day-long recording session with Buffalo Music Hall of Fame musicians in Goo Goo Doll Robby Takac’s GCR Recording Studio is the top prize in a songwriter contest for Western New York high school and college students sponsored by the Hall of Fame in conjunction with the Lucille and Jack Yellen Foundation.

The contest is open to songwriters, not full bands, up to 21 years old. Entries should consist of a recording of a single person playing guitar and singing. A Hall of Fame panel will judge entries on originality, not performance or recording quality. Deadline is Dec. 16. For rules and entry forms, visit www.buffalomusic.org/contest.html.

“We have never done this before,” says Anthony Casuccio, vice president of the Hall of Fame and a Grammy Award nominee, who will be mastering the winning song. “One very lucky aspiring musician will walk away with a finished, professional master of their song.”

ENTER LAUGHING – There’s no rest this weekend for Todd Benzin, Peter Cumbo, Don Gervasi and John Kreuzer, collectively known as the Eclectic Improv Company. They’re staging their new show, “The Fantastic Comedy Machine,” at 8 p.m. today and Saturday in the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave. As usual, no two performances will be alike. Musical guests will be the Albrights. Tickets are $20.
